CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) are computer based systems used for designing and manufacturing products.

Rapid Prototyping is a group of techniques used to quickly fabricate a scale model of a physical part or assembly using three-dimensional computer aided design (CAD) data. The construction of the part or assembly is usually done using 3D printing or "additive layer manufacturing" technology.

The computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) work flow in the traditional Rapid Prototyping process starts with the creation of geometric data. Eithre as a 3D Solid using a CAD workstation, or 2D slices from a scanning device. For RP this data must represent a valid geometric model; namely, one whose boudary surfaces enclose a finite volume, contain no holes exposing the interior and do not fold back on themselves. In 3D Printing, the prepared geometric model is typically sliced into layers and the slices are scanned into lines mimicking the layer-to-layer physical building process.

A 3D Scanner is a device that analyses a real-world object or environment to collect data on its shape and appearance. The collected data can then be used to construct digital three-dimensional models.

Collected 3D data is useful for a wide variety of applications. These devices are used extensively in the entertainment industry in the production of movies and video games. Other common applications of this technology include industrial design, orthodontics, prosthetic manufacturing, reverse engineering, prototyping, quality control, documentation of cultural artifacts and rapid manufacturing.

3D scanners share several traits with cameras. Like camera, they have a cone-like field of view and can only collect information about surfaces that are not obscured. While a camera collects color information about surfaces within its field of view, a 3D scanner collects distance information about surfaces within its field of view. Multiple scans (even hundreds) from many directions are usually required to obtain information about all sides of an object. These scans have to brought into a common reference system and then merged to create a complete model.

Unfortunately, GSC does not offer outsourced CAD services, due to the different skill level or industry related requirements by a CAD designer. Which comes in many variations of requirements to a design required by the customer.

However GSC, offers both 3D Scanning and Rapid Prototyping Solutions to work with your CAD Designer. With more than a decade working with precise CAD/CAM solutions for Jewelry Production, we have adapted this knowledge to expand into other industries such as industrial prototyping, orthodontic solutions (dentistry), 3D models for cartoon and entertainment usage and more.

Our experience is not only on the manufacturing side of creating models but the next steps requirements for  each use. We consult each customer on their output usage so that we can properly advise on materials, resolutions, time frame requirements and other processes after which may include: casting, rubber or silicone molds, communication protocols, CAD process or file keeping and sharing.

GessweinSiam provides product functional training with every product purchase.

CAD/CAM Products (if the customer is unfamiliar) requires a little more in depth product training and advise on usage. Customers buy CAD/CAM technology to facilitate speed and accuracy in their production or design departments. Training on new developments in CAD software, it's tools or use with production is a recommended and provided. Specific training in the use of CAM or 3D Scanning Solutions is provided which will vary based on the model, output material or technology updates. Material Outputs are recommended, explained and trained for use where requirements for casting or mold making for rapid production after the model has been made via CAM technology.

Our process is to have you understand the fundamentals of the software or machine. It is up to your personnel to take the machine in the directions for your company requirements. However, GessweinSiam will walk with your team through any issues you may have to apply real-world solutions to your production requirements.

Rapid Prototyping Service (3D Printing)

There are many choices in today's market place for Rapid Prototyping Technology. Here at GessweinSiam, we recommend and use the EnvisionTEC technology for our Rapid Prototyping Services.

At our GessweinSiam Service Center we have a total of 5 Rapid Prototyping units by EnvisionTec. All of which are for different specifications required by any client. Units can be used together on the same Print Order, however, details must be discussed with the GSC Staff before hand during our Analysis Process to determine correct plate resolutions and tray orders. Some basic details we take account of for Machine Specification Analysis is height requirement of the job, lens options, material limits, material types, required resolutions, file readiness and other.

EnvisionTEC’s Perfactory® 4

Standard 3D Printer with ERM is a low cost, easy maintenance and user friendly 3D printer for rapid prototyping and rapid manufacturing. Using state-of-the-art Direct Light Projection technology from Texas Instruments®, the Perfactory® 4 Standard 3D Printer produces the finest detail in the shortest period of time. It creates 3D models that range from the conceptual to the fully functional.


Build speed is constant through the build up to 1” (25 mm) at 0.0039” (100 µm) voxel thickness. Economic material use with no vat. Very few moving parts and minimal consumable components make the system user serviceable. Models are suitable for direct manufacturing through rapid casting. A choice of high quality materials are readily available 3D printer material changeover can be done quickly and easily.

EnvisionTEC’s Perfactory® 4

System Network Integration

Utilizing a built in Ethernet interface, the system has an embedded PC, which allows to work independently from the pre-processing workstation or can connect directly to a PC workstation and be integrated into a network. The system can be remotely monitored from any computer on the network using the communication software that is integrated into the Perfactory® Software Suite.
