Rapid Prototyping is a group of techniques used to quickly fabricate a scale model of a physical part or assembly using three-dimensional computer aided design (CAD) data. The construction of the part or assembly is usually done using 3D printing or "additive layer manufacturing" technology.
The computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) work flow in the traditional Rapid Prototyping process starts with the creation of geometric data. Eithre as a 3D Solid using a CAD workstation, or 2D slices from a scanning device. For RP this data must represent a valid geometric model; namely, one whose boudary surfaces enclose a finite volume, contain no holes exposing the interior and do not fold back on themselves. In 3D Printing, the prepared geometric model is typically sliced into layers and the slices are scanned into lines mimicking the layer-to-layer physical building process.
A 3D Scanner is a device that analyses a real-world object or environment to collect data on its shape and appearance. The collected data can then be used to construct digital three-dimensional models.
Collected 3D data is useful for a wide variety of applications. These devices are used extensively in the entertainment industry in the production of movies and video games. Other common applications of this technology include industrial design, orthodontics, prosthetic manufacturing, reverse engineering, prototyping, quality control, documentation of cultural artifacts and rapid manufacturing.
3D scanners share several traits with cameras. Like camera, they have a cone-like field of view and can only collect information about surfaces that are not obscured. While a camera collects color information about surfaces within its field of view, a 3D scanner collects distance information about surfaces within its field of view. Multiple scans (even hundreds) from many directions are usually required to obtain information about all sides of an object. These scans have to brought into a common reference system and then merged to create a complete model.
Unfortunately, GSC does not offer outsourced CAD services, due to the different skill level or industry related requirements by a CAD designer. Which comes in many variations of requirements to a design required by the customer.

CAD/CAM Products (if the customer is unfamiliar) requires a little more in depth product training and advise on usage. Customers buy CAD/CAM technology to facilitate speed and accuracy in their production or design departments. Training on new developments in CAD software, it's tools or use with production is a recommended and provided. Specific training in the use of CAM or 3D Scanning Solutions is provided which will vary based on the model, output material or technology updates. Material Outputs are recommended, explained and trained for use where requirements for casting or mold making for rapid production after the model has been made via CAM technology.
Our process is to have you understand the fundamentals of the software or machine. It is up to your personnel to take the machine in the directions for your company requirements.
